The OpenClaw alternative for companies.

OpenClaw is a brilliant agent for one person who likes running their own server. A company needs the parts you would otherwise build yourself: access for each person, approvals, a shared brain, backups and someone keeping it up to date.

What it does for a company

  • One company brain with a living file per client and the source of every fact.
  • Access for each person, the same in the app and in their own Claude or ChatGPT.
  • Agents with a job, a schedule and a dashboard, that ask you before anything leaves.

The short answerOpenClaw is the right choice if you are one technical person who wants full control and enjoys maintaining it. For a company, the work is everything around the agent: roles, approvals, a shared brain, security updates, backups. Brainstack gives you those, managed, on a server only your company uses.

Side by side, need by need.

What one person needs from an agent, and what a company needs on top. What we say about OpenClaw comes from its maker and the press, and we mark what isn't public.

Same question. Different access.

A personal agent knows one person. Brainstack keeps one brain for the whole company and answers each person with only what their role allows, from the app or from their own AI.

Who should pick which.

Stay with OpenClaw if

  • You are technical, it's just for you, and you enjoy tinkering.
  • You want to run local models or change the code.
  • You have the time to patch, back up and monitor it.

Choose Brainstack if

  • A team will use it, so access per person matters.
  • Nobody on the team should be the agent's sysadmin.
  • You need approvals, dashboards and backups every 6 hours out of the box.

Where Brainstack falls short: it doesn't run personal errands, there is no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 yet, and you bring your own Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini plan.

Three steps to your first agent.

  1. 1

    Connect your tools

Gmail, Drive, Notion, your CRM. The brain builds a living file per client from them.

  2. 2

    Invite your team

Give each person a role. That decides what they see, in the app and in their own AI.

Questions, answered.

OpenClaw is free. Why pay for Brainstack?

The software is free; running it for a company isn't. Someone has to add roles and approvals, keep a shared brain, patch it, back it up and answer when it breaks. Brainstack does that for you on a server only your company uses, from $99 a month plus your AI plan.

Can I use my own models like with OpenClaw?

Brainstack runs on your company's Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini plan. Local models are not offered today.

Is my data as private as self-hosting?

Your company gets its own server in the US or Europe, not a shared one, with encrypted backups every 6 hours. Your AI provider processes what an agent sends it, under your plan's terms, the same as with OpenClaw and a hosted model.

Is Brainstack a personal assistant?

No. It is built for a company's work: clients, invoices, inbox, sales and support. Each person can still ask the company brain from their own Claude or ChatGPT, and gets only what their role allows.

What does Brainstack cost?

Starter is $99 a month, Growth $499 and Scale $999, for the whole company. On top, you pay your company's AI plan (Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini) directly to the provider. We add no margin. Custom is priced with you.

Where does my data live?

On a server only your company uses, in the US or Europe, with encrypted backups every 6 hours. Your AI provider processes what an agent or a person sends it, under the terms of your plan.

Do you have SOC 2 or ISO 27001?

Not yet. What we do have: one server per customer, permissions per person, approvals before anything leaves, a record of what each agent did, and GDPR terms.
